The Confident Leader

BOOST YOUR LEADERSHIP IN UNCERTAIN TIMES

Let’s be honest: 2025 might not have gone as planned.

You missed some deadlines. Let a few priorities slip. You felt disorganized and a little disappointed.

But a new year is knocking. And this is your chance to answer with intention.

“Tomorrow is the first blank page of a 365-page book. Write a good one.”
— Brad Paisley

This Week’s Edition

WAs you close the books on 2025, don’t just make resolutions

Ask a better question:

Who do I want to become by the end of 2026?

That question changes everything.

Clarify Your Thinking

You’ve grown enough to admit: you don’t want another year of scrambling. Another year of misplaced goals or missed impact.

You want to lead differently.

And to do that, you need more than a new planner. You need a reset in perspective.

Research suggests that leaders who engage in regular self-reflection build deeper self-awareness, make better decisions, and enhance their ability to help others grow and perform.

That means looking at the past year with clarity, not shame.

Where did your time go?

Where did your energy thrive?

Where did it drain?

The truth is: You can’t lead a better year by wanting one. You lead a better year by designing one…with intention.

Old Thinking
I hope 2026 goes better than last year. I just need to be more disciplined and push through.

New Thinking
If I want to lead differently, I need to think differently. Clarity beats hustle—and focused intention beats intensity.

Thoughts Lead to Actions

Most leaders jump into January with a list of goals. But goals without structure or a shift in mindset fizzle by February (or sooner).

So let’s start differently.

Here’s how to begin building the leadership life you actually want in 2026:

➤ Review the Year
Block 60 minutes. Reflect on what worked and what didn’t in 2025. Thumb through your calendar week by week to remind yourself of the ground you covered. Write down three lessons you don’t want to forget.

➤ Define the Leader You Want to Be
Don’t just focus on what you want to do, add a focus of who you want to become. Describe the 2026 leadership version of you in detail. Then ask: what habits and routines support that identity?

➤ Build a Realistic Rhythm
Some examples include: One hour of leadership thinking time each week. A monthly check-in with a trusted peer. Quarterly planning for your team. Simplicity wins.

➤ Declare One Bold Move
What’s the risk or leap you’ve avoided? Name it. Plan it. Schedule it. The right challenge could operate to wake you up and pull you forward.

Remember, the goal isn’t perfection. The goal is steady progression.

You don’t need to lead a flawless year. Last year wasn’t, and you still accomplished a lot. Endeavor to lead a focused year…one with intention.

Lead well. Live well.

What is “The Confident Leader”?

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, I began a video series called “Panic or Plan?” It was designed to equip leaders to navigate the doubt they experienced and to rise in the confidence they needed to lead during turbulent times. It took off. I then started this newsletter to equip leaders in the same fashion each week for the doubt that crashes across the bow of their leaderSHIP.
